The US obesity prevalence among adults was 41.9% in 2017 to March 2020. This means that nearly 42% of adults in the US are classified as obese.

From 1999-2000 through 2017-March 2020, the obesity prevalence increased from 30.5% to 41.9%. During the same period, the prevalence of severe obesity (BMI ≥ 40) rose from 4.7% to 9.2%.
